May 20, 2008 - I've just posted a review of Laridian's PocketBible 4 software. They just released it today.
December 30, 2007 - Normally I just post updates to my site here, but I had something I wanted to share with some of you. Many of you know I use Laridian PocketBible to read and study my bible, but earlier this year, I started using a paper bible to do my morning studies. Several years ago, I switched to the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) translation. You can read more about how this translation came about at this site on English translations. The impetus for doing this was I used the NIV for most of my life and was looking at the newer translation that ultimately became the "Today's NIV", but was disturbed by some of the gender neutral language that was being used. I've never been one for political correctness, and I think everyone knows that when we use terms like "mankind" today it in no way means the male gender and there are a lot of instances in the bible where a masculine pronoun is used to mean all people, not just males, and the meaning is pretty clear if you take the reading in context. I see no point in changing the words just so they meet some gender neutral criteria. It was in studying this that I happened upon the HCSB translation, which was actually done by people on the committee to update the NIV, but were similarly dissatisfied with the gender neutral direction. It is more literal than the NIV, but less so than the New American Standard or English Standard versions, which is fine with me. All HCSB bibles I've seen are full of footnotes that show extremely literal translations to any and seemingly all verses that were made more readable, and when I want to get a real literal reading, I'll grab Young's Literal Translation anyway, either my paper version or the electronic version on my Pocket PC. So why am I posting this? Because I received as a gift something I had put on my Amazon wish list - the Apologetic Study Bible. I never got it intending to make it my primary bible. I thought it would make a great reference bible. Well, it does, but to my surprise (not having read the full Amazon description) it is based on the HCSB translation. I had put it on my list because of contributions from William Lane Craig, Gary Habermas, J.P. Moreland, Norman Geisler and dozens more. The one Amazon has for sale is a hardback. I went to a LifeWay Christian bookstore and perused their copies of this new publication and they had about six different bindings. I picked up a beautiful brown leather version with gold leaf, two bookmarks and tons of apologetic commentary, footnotes, maps and more. If you think you have never studied apologetics, well you have. 1 Peter 3:15-16 pretty much defines apologetics. If you have in interest in reading the bible in a translation that is faithful to the best manuscripts available that includes notes to either help through some of the more difficult passages or notes to support, both internally (biblically) and externally (other historical documents) that the Word is inspired and from God, then I urge you to consider adding this to your library. Who knows? You might decide, like me, to make it your primary bible you carry around and read from.
August 26, 2007 - Well, it has been a while since I updated my web page, mainly because I got a new computer and instead of installing Front Page, I installed the new Microsoft Expression Web tool and it took me several months to sit down and figure out how to successfully import my web site. So, a number of things have been added. On my Books on my Pocket Bible page, you'll see summaries on IVP Bible Background Commentaries, Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible Notes and the Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary. Also added a blurb about the new PocketBible for Windows product. On other pages, I added some CDs from Baxter and Anagram to my The Best Music You've Never Heard page. I removed Topical Bible from the o Apps on my Pocket PC page as it is no longer available or supported.
March 4, 2007 - Added Laridian's Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture to my Bible library. This is the compilation of writings from numerous church fathers and gives great insight to the passages discussed.
January 22, 2007 - Added a page for users of Windows Mobile to easily find downloadable services like GMail (Java) or Windows Live Search for Windows Mobile.
October 14, 2006 - Added Complete Word Study - Old Testament to the Books on my Pocket Bible page.
September 10, 2006 - Added a page to list all functions Pocket Excel supports.
August 11, 2006 - Just updated my Today Screen to better reflect what I am actually running on my Pocket PC. I guess I tend to put less and less on my device. One of those "less is more" things.
May 8, 2006 - Sugarplum Fairies has released their third album and it fits very well with their first two. It is now on my laptop, K-Jam and Zen Micro. You can find out more on The Best Music You've Never Heard page.
April 25, 2006 - Added a review of Laridian's PocketBible 3 to the site.
February 4, 2006 - Added Laridian's One Year Walk with God Daily Reading program to my Bible library. I've only had the program a month, but it is by far, the most powerful Daily Reading program Laridian has, at least if a relationship with God is what you seek, as opposed to getting to know more about God. I also added Ivy to my music page. Dominique Durand, the lead singer, has a fantastic voice.
November 19, 2005 - I have switched to the iMate K-Jam, a Windows Mobile 5 powered Pocket PC Phone that has a very well designed slide-out keyboard. You should also check out my blog dedicated to my K-Jamming experience.
September 4, 2005 - Where to begin? Well, I purchased 2 CDs by a group called Petracovich. Fantastic music. You can see that on my music page. Laridian has released four new books from the New Bible Reference Series, which you can read about on my Pocket Bible page. Speaking of Pocket Bible, I have installed a new app called Topical Bible that is a great way to enter notes on specific verses in a hierarchy. It can then export your notes in an HTML page that Pocket Bible can use as a book. Finally, I removed City Time from my Pocket PC. It has a horrible bug when in the Brazilian time zone -3, and after trying to get it fixed twice and getting ridiculous answers like 'the internet time servers may be wrong' I removed it.
June 2, 2005 - Laridian has released two new books specifically for Messianic Jews, but New Testament Christians will enjoy them as well. They are the Complete Jewish New Testament and the Jewish New Testament Commentary. Both are listed on the Books on my Pocket Bible page.
April 1, 2005 - Added a link to my Microsoft MVP Profile page. How do you like that URL? 224 characters. Impressive huh? That will look so cool on my business card.
March 5, 2005 - Added WriteShields to things on my Pocket PC. Yeah, it isn't an app, but honestly, WriteShields are more important to me than a few of the apps on my Pocket PC. Also noted that I discontinued using Audible Player on my Pocket PC. Could there be a more poorly written piece of software?
February 21, 200 - Added A Physicist's Perspective to the blogs I read that deal with Christianity.
February 15, 2005 - Added BlinkOff to Apps on my Pocket PC. Turns off the red LED on the XDA III/PDA2K.
February 14, 2005 - Added a Today weather plugin called Spb Weather to Apps on my Pocket PC. It integrates into the popular Spb Pocket Plus app.
January 15, 2005 - I got an iMATE PDA2K Pocket PC Phone over the Christmas break. See the site for more details. Also updated a few apps.
December 2, 2004 - Added PalmChess to Apps on my Pocket PC. I've actually had this game for years but it wasn't installed. Both of my sons have an interest in chess now and this helps keep me in practice so they don't beat me.

July 4, 2003 - Modified the front page to reflect that I use an iPAQ 2215 now more than the iPAQ 3900 series. I also added some info on the Nokia 3650 I use as a bluetooth modem for my iPAQ.
